Core Values

Trollworks was born out of enduring efforts to shape reciprocal relationships between communities and the landscapes they exist within. Focused initially on developing high-value uses for low-value biomass wastes, Trollworks’ founders also sought to develop and propagate economically viable options for places whose landscapes and communities had been degraded by decades of extractive industries—many of which had since disinvested and departed. Trollworks’ solutions are built on a commitment to regenerate both landscapes and communities.

Current Focus

The current focus of Trollworks’ innovations is the development of bioenergy + carbon capture and sequestration (BeCCS) systems. These systems are capable of displacing fossil fuel use—particular methane “natural” gas—while simultaneously sequestering significant amounts of climate destabilizing greenhouse gases. The full development and deployment of Trollworks’ technology sets could achieve gigaton-scale carbon sequestration while simultaneously distributing billions of dollars in economic benefits—particularly in rural and agricultural communities.

Trollworks’ Design Innovations

Trollworks integrates decades of experience in biomass and bioenergy systems development to offer a unique approach to BioEnergy + Carbon Capture & Sequestration (BECCS) that integrates all three of the known approaches to carbon sequestration. This solution set is based on a number of core design principles that are simultaneously the source of important technology system innovations.

  • Utilize abundant low-value biomass waste and feedstocks as bioenergy and sequestered carbon source.

  • Displace fossil fuel—particularly methane (natural gas) and propane—by designing for maximum bioenergy conversion and use.

  • Make systems modular, scalable + semi-mobile to match the available biomass resource and energy & sequestration needs/opportunities.

  • Create continuous feed (vs. batch) systems so that bioenergy produced can be matched to existing energy needs.
